The Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental Research, part of the BIRD, develops, implements and disseminates knowledge and technologies in the fields of clean energy, environmental physics, and basic and applied ecology. In Desert Ecology we are using deserts as model ecosystems for advancing ecological knowledge, conservation, and sustainable development of dry regions.
In Solar Energy and Environmental Physics we are exploring ways to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, while developing new sources of clean energy.
